About

As one of the UK’s largest independent food bank, The Welcome Centre serves South Kirklees, West Yorkshire, providing emergency food aid and support to individuals and families in crisis. Last year, we distributed over 22,000 crisis packs, including 13,096 seven-day food packs—the equivalent of 368,385 meals—supporting 5,999 individuals, including 2,377 children. We are committed to inclusivity, ensuring dietary needs are met with halal, kosher, vegan, and vegetarian options.

Food insecurity is often linked to broader challenges such as poor mental and physical health, financial pressure and debt, unemployment issues,  housing instability and family support. To address these, our in-house Advice, Guidance & Support (AGS) service offers vital assistance, including:

• Income maximisation – Providing benefit checks and form-filling support

• Employment support – Helping individuals access training and job opportunities

• Referrals – Connecting clients to mental health, addiction, and domestic abuse services

• Crisis support – Offering a safe space to discuss trauma and access emergency aid

By tackling the root causes of financial insecurity and personal crises, we empower individuals to regain independence and stability. Our holistic approach ensures that people not only receive emergency food but also the support needed to build a more secure future.

Our service thrives thanks to the dedication of our incredible volunteers who generously give their time to support the community. With 146 committed volunteers, we can continue providing this essential service—but we rely on the support of our community to keep it going. Funds raised from this raffle will go toward covering our core operating costs, ensuring we can keep making a difference.
