Some stories stay with you forever. This is one of them.
We recently witnessed a woman living through an extremely toxic and abusive relationship where alcohol, fear, control, and isolation had taken over every part of life. After witnessing the abuse first hand, we immediately contacted the police, and the perpetrator was arrested. A Domestic Violence Protection Order is now in place.
But the damage left behind runs deep.
This lady had no immediate support system around her, and her way of coping with the trauma and abuse became alcohol. We could see the direction things were heading, and we knew urgent action was needed , not tomorrow, not “eventually,” but immediately.
For the safety of her, her children, and her beautiful little dog, we made the decision to place her into a one-month rehabilitation programme, where she remains today.
Her dog is safe with us.
Her children are being cared for.
And reports from rehab say she is doing incredibly well.
For the first time in a long time, there is hope.
We are now helping prepare for her release so she does NOT have to return to the environment that nearly destroyed her. We are arranging ongoing addiction support, safety planning, and a fresh start away from abuse.
The costs have been significant, but when the choice is between doing nothing or saving a life, there was never really a choice.
Now we are asking for help to recoup the costs of rehabilitation, support, care, and emergency intervention so this mother can continue rebuilding her life and be there for her children and her beautiful dog, the way they desperately need her to be.
