Fundraiser - The Witcutt Fund

Story

Edinburgh Direct Aid created a Fund in memory of one of the earlier volunteers, Christine Witcutt, who was tragically killed in Bosnia.

The fund has:

started a day-care centre in Sarajevo, for children with special needs, as a memorial to Christine Witcutt, who was killed in an Edinburgh Direct Aid convoy delivering aid to the city in 1993. The Day Care Centre at the Vladimir Nazor School, Sarajevo, is now incorporated into the Cantonal and local government support system.

finances a home visiting service. This service provides vital developmental support and advice and therapy services to 22-25 children with special needs and their families in their own homes. These children are not included in school for a variety of reasons: lack of suitable transport, very fragile health, complex domestic situations etc., but also because the national and local education systems do not yet make adequate provision for them.

has an all-Bosnian staff in Sarajevo.

Edinburgh Direct Aid International is a charity dedicated to helping those
suffering as a result of man-made or natural catastrophes overseas,
wherever we have the resources and opportunity to make a difference.

Currently EDA is working mainly in Ukraine, Lebanon and Gaza.
Working for the refugees, the displaced and others suffering
bombardment, siege and deprivation, providing food and other supplies,
medical aid, vocational and educational opportunities,
music and music therapy, shelter, and emergency aid.
