I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2020, which meant I had to face cancer and Covid 19 at the same time. I had my family to support me but I couldn't see my closest friends or simply go to the shops. I was asked to shield and to avoid any unnecessary travel and started my chemo in May 2020 followed by a bilateral mastectomy and radiotherapy. It was a scary and lonely time to get through. The hardest thing to get over was the thought that I shouldn't make plans now. I thought as I may die soon so I have no right to make plans anymore. I was totally wrong, and I realised that thanks to the fantastic charity Something to Look Forward To. I was offered a family break as a retreat after my treatment.
Having something to look forward to is amazingly important. It really is a light in a tunnel. Knowing I am going away for a few days kept me smiling and full of hope for a future. It was a life-changer for me, my life became full of colours again. I quickly realised that I could still make plans, despite my cancer diagnosis. That is all because I was given support from the best ever charity - Something To Look Forward To.
I would love to support this charity because they gave me hope to survive the next day.
