Story

This September, we will be embarking on a 220-mile hike through West Scotland, in memory of Robert (Dad to Louisa and Alex, and Mary's husband). We will start with the Kintyre Way, then the Loch Lomond & Cowal Way, and finish with a chunk of the West Highland Way, reaching Fort William fourteen days later. We are really looking forward to this special time together, enjoying the Scottish wilderness including one of the areas that Rob worked in as a geologist.

In September 2012, Rob died from complications associated with acute myeloid leukaemia after a short time on ITU at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. The following year, in his memory, we walked 175 miles along the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way, raising over £5000 (including gift aid) for the ITU and SOS Children's Villages UK. This year, as we mark the 10-year anniversary of losing Rob, we are once again lacing up our hiking boots, to raise money for SOS Children's Villages UK.

This charity is close to our hearts and we've had the privilege of supporting it over the last 10 years and seeing its work first-hand. They work globally to provide children with loving and safe homes by using a unique 'SOS village community' model. Wherever it might be in the world, the community is made up of homes where dedicated 'SOS parents' look after children alongside their 'SOS siblings'. Both girls and boys are given quality education and healthcare, and these resources also benefit the local area. The charity also runs family strengthening programmes and parenting skills courses, and is currently providing emergency relief in Ukraine and Pakistan. Supporting

SOS Children's Villages UK

We help every child grow up with the love and support of a family.  We support children separated from their families or at risk of separation from them.  We believe that children deserve more than just survival. They have a right to grow up in a

safe and caring family environment, giving them the best chance of a secure future.  Our goal is to ensure that no child grows up alone.
