Hello!
I am Sev and I am mum to an adorable 2 year-old toddler. Before having a baby, I used to run and completed the York marathon, Leeds 10k, and Leeds half-marathon in the space of 5 years, in that order, and with no prior running experience (I actually hated to exercise). Despite loving to run, I have found it hard to return to it after having a baby; so to give myself a little nudge, I thought of the beautiful goal of running and finishing a 10k while fundraising for Treasure Chest, to give back for all the incredible help and support they have provided to our family in the last 3 years. Treasure Chest was there at every step - and still is: I am now a Peer Supporter volunteer myself. I don't know how we would have done without them!
Treasure Chest is a fantastic local group which informs and supports parents-to-be and families at all stages of their breastfeeding journey, whatever their journey looks like. Treasure Chest provides antenatal workshops, weekly breastfeeding support groups in various locations in town and on Zoom, and offers support directly at the York hospital on the postnatal ward. All for free. It is incredibly warm, informative, and useful. Breastfeeding is hard work, emotionally and physically; and we know that having a community and local support is key to a successful breastfeeding relationship, which provides both baby and parents with a wealth of benefits - no matter what the journey looks like. Breastfeeding is sometimes controversial - but did you know that the World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding up to at least 2 years old?
Treasure Chest supports more than 500 families in the York area each year, thanks to the generosity of those who give their time and money.
