Maria Isabel, or Piki as she known, is 16 years old. She was born when her dad was a prisoner in the men's prison in Trinidad-Beni, Bolivia, and she started her life in the prison at 2 days old after being born in the local hospital. She lived in the prison with her dad, mum, and four older siblings until her dad died when she was 8 years old, and the family found themselves without anywhere to live, as the prison had been their home for so many years. She lived with her mum and siblings until she was 11, when her mum and 15 year old sister were murdered by hit-men who are thought to have been hired by a family that had a grudge against her dad. The remaining siblings had to leave Trinidad, due to the risk to their lives also, and Piki now lives with her older sister, brother in law and her 5 year old nephew. She has two years of school left and she would love to go to University after that. She has gone through so much in her young life and she still mourns the loss of her mum, dad and sister. Her sister has a small baking business and works hard to support them, but they still struggle and without having their parents around for support, things are hard.
Schools require students to buy their own supplies, notebooks and textbooks and often ask for additional materials during the school year. Any support for Piki's education will make a huge difference and it will help her to continue her studies, graduate high school, and go onto university with the hope of a brighter future after all the pain and sadness she has endured.
Thank you so much for your support.
