I retired from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in March last year, latterly a Group Commander Service Delivery in Fife.
During my time in this post along with my friend and colleague Group Commander Dusty Miller, all too often we had to lean into the Family Support Trust and Firefighters Charity to seek support for families of friends and colleagues taken far too soon from us. During these extremely difficult periods both charities provided amazing emotional and financial support and were just 'there'. This is something I will forever be grateful for.
It was always my intention following retirement to do something to put something back into both charity pots. So here goes.......
My good pal, cycling buddy and Royal Navy Veteran Russell Topping and I will cycle a version of the North Coast 500 from our home town of Dunbar, East Lothian making it the 'North Coast 1000'.
We leave East Lothian on 18th May 2022 stopping in Calander, Kyle of Lochalsh, Kinlochewe, Lochinver, Tongue, Wick, Inverness and Pitlochry. All going well returning to Dunbar on 26th May. 9 days cycling covering 1000 miles.
This will be a challenging but fitting tribute to friends and colleagues no longer with us, whilst supporting 2 amazing Fire Family Charities.
Please dig deep where you can. Any loose change you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
Big Love
