Welcome to my fundraising page for my 70.3 Triathlon (Half Ironman) at Holkham Hall to raise money for NF2 BioSolutions UK.
NF2 BioSolutions are a volunteer run charity that fund critical research into preventative treatments and ultimately a cure for the rare genetic disorder Neurofibromatosis Type 2. NF2 affects approximately 1 in 35,000 people and causes tumours to grow along the nervous system.
The last 10 months have been a challenging time for my family. In September 2021 we discovered that one of my sons had a large brain tumour, this was successfully removed by the amazing Neuro Surgery team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Following surgery he had genetic testing and was diagnosed with NF2. My son has recovered well from surgery and is continuing treatment but we know that some time in the future he will have more tumours. Therefore, the more money that is raised for research into treatments and a cure could have a massive affect on the quality of his life and other people with NF2.
On July 3rd I will attempt the Outlaw Half Holkham Triathlon which comprises of a refreshing 1.2 mile swim in the lake at Holkham Hall in Norfolk, a relaxing 56 mile ride around the beautiful countryside and a probably painful 13.1 mile run around the Holkham estate! I have completed triathlons in the past but have never attempted one as long as this!
