Three things we know about our legend of a Head Teacher here at St Bernard's RC Primary School, Mrs Clare Doodson:
1. She's given our school 20 wonderful years of leadership and will be overwhelmingly missed when she retires this summer.
2. She's the first to step up and champion a good cause in the community.
3. She's a great sport who takes everything in the spirit of good humour and is always up for a challenge.
So where does this leave us?
Naturally, it makes us want to put her in the driving seat of a specially adapted buggy and have her race around the school field in the name of charity! Oh, and as the charity we'll be raising money for is Speed of Sight (a small but wonderful charity right here in Bolton that gives the gift of driving to blind people and to people with disabilities – whatever their age), she'll be taking on this challenge... BLINDFOLDED!
We call this challenge, Mrs Doodson - Blind Faith. She loves a good pun, it's all good.
To mark the end of Mrs D's incredible 20 year stint as our beloved Head Teacher in style - and to raise some vital funds for Speed of Sight as they look to build more specially adapted cars and buggies for the people whose lives they positively change - we're asking families and friends of St Bernard's - and indeed anyone within our local community - to sponsor a few pounds to mark this wonderful event.
This is truly going to be a spectacular day (details to follow - cross your fingers for clear skies on Monday 22nd April), but we want Mrs Doodson to get in that buggy (with a Speed of Sight instructor, don't worry) knowing that absolutely everybody in our community is behind her. Let's show Mrs D what she means to us, and let's show Speed of Sight how our school and community can pull together to drive the ambitions of a truly great cause that for many, makes the impossible - possible.
