Story

Guess What? I'm going to throw myself out of a plane! I will complete a 15,000 ft skydive with Headcorn in Kent. This craziness is to raise awareness of all the fantastic work that Pam Fry MBE & the team at PlayWise Learning offer to families with young disabled children and to raise funds to be able to purchase a range of sensory toys/ resources. Why risk life and limb for PlayWise? I am Keith Cartwright. I am 47 years young. I have a fantastic wife Kate, & three wonderful children, Noah, Sebastian & Thomas. OK, I am an accountant, but I would say I am not your stereotypical accountant. I've done Bungee jumps, have numerous tattoos & I have the best Dad jokes in the world(!!). Both Sebastian & Thomas have been assessed and diagnosed with autism. We were lucky during this time, as we were introduced to the PlayWise team & the Portage service. Pam has been a rock to my wife and a sounding board for both our concerns. Sebastian was diagnosed with moderate autism. Thomas, also diagnosed with moderate autism, however with a completely different mix of scores to his brother. Where Sebastian has taken to mainstream school like a duck to water, Thomas struggled in mainstream nursery and with PlayWise's assistance and guidance have successfully applied for an EHCP and secured a place for Thomas at an ASD Base Provision. Pam was instrumental in this process, breaking down the jargon and making it into a way that Kate and I could understand. Without the PlayWise team, Noah, Sebastian, Thomas, Kate and I would be in a very different position than we are now. I know first-hand how much help and assistance PlayWise offers families in similar positions to ours. Therefore I would willingly throw myself out of a plane to raise awareness and help future families in a similar position to us.
