Well hello and welcome! You're at the right place if you love and care about our equine family. We are excited to announce our 7 7's challenge where a group of dedicated horse lovers will raise money for the Equine Half Way House Rescue in memory of our wonderful much loved horse Hero by climbing the 7 highest peaks in the mournes in one day! We couldn't save Hero sadly but we can help save the many other horses out there needing a helping hand from the dedicated individuals over at the Equine Half Way House.

Equine Halfway House

We take in animals, predominantly equines, but no animal is refused help. This help can be in their own home, with advice, physical help or financial aid. We help rehome from home, by advertising on social media, doing home checks, checking references and arranging transport. We also take in animals who need a safe place. Once here we work with what we call the 5 r's of rescue. RESCUE our horses and other animals come from a wide range of situations, from death row in the pound to owner surrenders and even other rescues. RECUPERATION once here they are quarantined for 3 weeks. This gives them time to adjust to the start of a new chapter and us a chance to assess them, get the vet, farrier and dentist if required. They learn to start trusting humans again. This can take longer than 3 weeks depending on each individual animal. REHABILITATION we start to teach at the beginning to heal from any physical or emotional trauma. No force is used here. Ponies are sent away at the moment to be backed and schooled as we don't have the facilities to do it here. This is done if and when the pony is ready. REHOMING All here are available for rehoming, but only to the perfect home. All animals remain ours, no matter where they go. REFUGE any animal who can't be rehomed for any reason will find refuge here at the halfway house. There are only 2 adults and one child here to keep everyone happy and healthy.
