Dear parents,
We’re excited to announce an inspiring art project that will add colour, creativity, and pride to our school!
Our school is 170 years old this year – Christ Church School was founded in 1855 – and we would like to mark this special occasion by commissioning a painting of the school. This artwork will be hung in the school hall for all to enjoy for years to come and we will produce prints that everybody could take to their homes as a memory of the good years our children spent in Christ Church.
We have asked local artist, and former Christ Church pupil, Matt Phillips, to create this painting. You can see some of Matt’s work on his website (https://www.mattphillipsart.com) and the school painting promises to be just as spectacular as his other paintings of local buildings.
We believe that art not only brightens spaces but also inspires imagination, creativity, and community identity. Matt Phillips is also an art teacher and as part of this project, he will run some sessions with the children looking at his paintings, talking about the importance of creativity in life, discussing how he became an artist and sketching with him. The children will also be able to see the painting as it develops over the coming weeks when Matt comes into school to paint.
Matt is aiming for the finished painting to be on display at the Summer Fair on 29th June, where you will also be able to get cards and prints of the art work.
As a former pupil and supporter of the school, Matt has given us a generous discount on his work. However, we would still greatly appreciate your help in supporting this exciting project - every contribution, big or small, is truly valued.
Thank you very much if you are able to support this exciting project to mark the school’s 170th anniversary!
