I'm returning to running the Bed Race having last participated in this great local event in the mid 1990's!
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race has been taking place since 1966 and is a mighty pageant of decorated beds, passengers and runners, combined with a gruelling athletic contest around a course of 2.4 miles.
The race takes teams through parkland, through the Nidd Gorge, up the steep Castle Ings to the town centre and around the Market Square before hurtling down the High Street and Bond End, across High Bridge and to the climax of the event a 30 yard swim through the ever-icy waters of the River Nidd, beds, racers and all. For the teams it is an unforgettable experience and for spectators unmissable. Bed racing started in Knaresborough and raises money for local causes and charities so if you can please spare a few quid and if your free on June 10th get into Knaresborough for a great day out.
