Walk-for-Rita

Walking a marathon for all women affected by harassment, abuse and violence.

A group of local women have come together to raise awareness about women's safety and much-needed funds for The Rita Project. Walking 26.2 miles across the South Downs in early July, they want to call for everyone in society to challenge violence and abuse against women. 

The recent high profile story about Sarah Everard has brought the spotlight back to the realities of safety on the streets and the challenges women face. Since the disappearance of Sarah on 3rd March 2021, at least 8 women have died due to violence from a male known to them.

This is unacceptable and every case is a tragic loss of a woman, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a colleague. 

This walk is dedicated to them.

The Rita Project works to create system change, raise awareness, and create better outcomes for people experiencing abuse.
