Starvation and Horror in Gaza
In Israel on October 7th 2023 over 1000 died, including at least 30 children, nearly 250 were taken hostage in an attack by Hamas.
But since that date ongoingonslaughts by Israel's armed forces qnd cutting off of supplies has led to a situation of death, deprivation and disease in Gaza almost beyond belief in its extremity.
Water
• Some 90% of Gaza's residents have limited or no access to clean water sources. (Guardian and The Times)
Blockade
• since March 2025, Israel has halted the entry of food, water, medicine, fuel, and electricity. This has led to a dramatic increase in food prices and the closure of bakeries and community kitchens due to lack of supplies. ( Guardian)
• half a million people are in a catastrophic situation of hunger, acute malnutrition, starvation and illness. (World Health Organization)
• families in Gaza are starving while essential food supplies remain at the border,. (World Health Organization)
Hospitals
Out of 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip, only 22 are still partially functional, while suffering grave shortages of medical supplies, fuel, and staff.
• Overall capacity is far below the needs of the population, with critical shortages in intensive care units, surgical services, and maternal health care. (WHO)
Displacement
• Over 70% of the territory has been declared uninhabitable or designated as no-go zones by Israeli forces.
• some 90% of Gaza's population—about 2.1 million people— have been displaced. Many have experienced multiple displacements, with some 10 times or more. (Oxfam America)
