Story

I was 70 in December. My challenge was to run 70 cold, solo miles in January from my home on a measured 1.3 miles urban lap.

Despite a fall on black ice on 6 January, I ran the 70 miles starting on New Year’s Day - in fact ran 80 miles in January to give disadvantaged children a new start in life.

The funds raised give daughters and sons of subsistence farmers in Bawku Municipal District, Ghana the school uniforms and equipment they need for a primary school education. Otherwise they’ll be child labourers with poor life prospects.

I'm a Lovey Foundation (UK) trustee because my father passed his grammar school entrance exams but didn’t go. His parents couldn’t afford the school uniform.

In 2020 it cost our charity about £70 to equip a child in Bawku for school. With your help my target's at least £70 for each of the 70 miles I ran - a child's life changed per mile.

Kindly sponsor me as generously as you can. (My daily updates are at www.loveyfoundation.org on itsWhat We Do page.) Please GIFT AID  if you're a UK Income Tax or Capital Gains taxpayer but not a relative, so Lovey Foundation (UK) can reclaim 25p in tax per £1 you give.  [ Any questions? Melvyn Walmsley's 70 Miles at 70 Solo Run:1st to 31st January 2021 from Lovey Foundation (UK)

I was 70 in December. My challenge is to run 70 cold, solo miles in January from my home on a measured 1.3 miles urban lap.

I’ve built up to running 18.2 miles (14 laps) a week for the first time in 32 years. From New Year’s Day, I'll do that four times in January to give disadvantaged children a new start in life.

The funds I raise will give daughters and sons of subsistence farmers in Bawku Municipal District, Ghana the school uniforms and equipment they need for a primary school education. Otherwise they’ll be child labourers with poor life prospects.

I'm a Lovey Foundation (UK) trustee because my father passed his grammar school entrance exams but didn’t go. His parents simply couldn’t afford the school uniform.

In 2020 it cost our charity about £70 to equip a child in Bawku for school. With my sponsors’ help I aim to raise £70 for each of the 70 miles I run - a child's life changed per mile.

Kindly sponsor me as generously as you can. (On our website www.loveyfoundation.org you can find out more and track my daily progress.) Please GIFT AID your donation if you're a UK Income Tax or Capital Gains taxpayer, so Lovey Foundation (UK) can reclaim 25p in tax for each £1 you give.  [ Any questions?
