Story

Equine Halfway House are a horse and pony rescue and refuge situated outside Lisburn, Northern Ireland. They work tirelessly, morning until night, to ensure that all the animals in their care are looked after and cared for. They predominately take in equines but won't refuse any animal. This past year they've taken in many of the horses that were abandoned on the Mournes and this has caused their vet bills to sky rocket, they also have potentially three foals on the way from mares that came off the Mournes already pregnant. 

Over the period of four weeks I'll be running a total of 50k to raise some money for them! All donations are appreciated and will go to a very deserving cause.

I'm Marianne, lifelong lover of horses, mother of four cats, and volunteer at Equine Halfway House! I start my 50k in just over a week and am very glad the weather is improving!

Equine Halfway House

We take in animals, predominantly equines, but no animal is refused help. This help can be in their own home, with advice, physical help or financial aid. We help rehome from home, by advertising on social media, doing home checks, checking references and arranging transport. We also take in animals who need a safe place. Once here we work with what we call the 5 r's of rescue. RESCUE our horses and other animals come from a wide range of situations, from death row in the pound to owner surrenders and even other rescues. RECUPERATION once here they are quarantined for 3 weeks. This gives them time to adjust to the start of a new chapter and us a chance to assess them, get the vet, farrier and dentist if required. They learn to start trusting humans again. This can take longer than 3 weeks depending on each individual animal. REHABILITATION we start to teach at the beginning to heal from any physical or emotional trauma. No force is used here. Ponies are sent away at the moment to be backed and schooled as we don't have the facilities to do it here. This is done if and when the pony is ready. REHOMING All here are available for rehoming, but only to the perfect home. All animals remain ours, no matter where they go. REFUGE any animal who can't be rehomed for any reason will find refuge here at the halfway house. There are only 2 adults and one child here to keep everyone happy and healthy.
