Chopping my hair off! But what for?
Stroke claims a life every six seconds. It is the second leading cause of death for people above the age of 60 and it affects children as well as both men and women. Stroke is responsible for more deaths annually than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined.
This doesn't have to be the case.
80% of all stroke deaths are preventable and rapid access to medical treatment will make the difference between, life and death as well as full recovery and permanent disability.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world with only 10% of the population having access to electricity. In a developing country like Malawi, the burden of stroke is increasing and with a complete lack of stroke units, the impact of this will continue to rise.
Malawi Stroke Unit and Open Arms Malawi are two organisations fighting to give people of all ages in Malawi a fighting chance to live long lives, free from undue suffering.

The money will be evenly divided between the two charities at the end of the month.
Finally, I will be donating the hair itself, to create a wig for the Little Princess Trust once the COVID restrictions are lifted.
