Ormiston’s Safari Suppers
Ormiston Parent Council will be hosting a series of cultural events celebrating the rich diversity of cultural and gastronomic traditions around the globe, many of which are represented by families in the school community.
Day of the Dead:- Mexico (1/2nd November)
The first will be Mexico’s Day of the Dead, which falls around Halloween. Despite many similarities in timing and the imagery of Skeletons and Skulls, the celebrations themselves have a very different significance for Mexicans. As opposed to being a ghoulish affair, The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a joyous celebration of remembrance of deceased family members, welcoming their spirits back to the family home.Central to this celebration are visits to the cemetery to guide their ancestors home, music, food, marigolds, sugar skulls and importantly the ‘Ofrenda’, a family alter/shrine set up in the family home and adorned with their loved ones portraits and favourite food and drinks.
The Safari Supper is live a ticketed event (adults only) held at 7pm Saturday 30th October.
Tickets cost £25 per person and include:
Mexican Food: Nachos, Tacos, Chili Con Carne, Sweet Treats
