About

Apologies but we are currently sold out of tickets for the FAS dinner. Please contact Shireen Akrawi on fas@orderofmalta.org.uk as there might be some movement on the waiting list or cancellations.

This year we turn the evening into a fundraiser for the hunger crisis in Africa, and in particular Kenya.

The country, which was already struggling with high levels of poverty and inequality, is now facing a severe drought that has caused widespread food shortages and increase in food prices. Such calamity is having a devastating affect on the most vulnerable in society, both in the cities as well as in the most remote communities by the borders.

With the general attention mainly focused on Ukraine and most recently the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey, we believe it is even more important to shine the light on other conflicts around the world and help transmit to the public the disastrous situation African countries are in.

That is exactly the focus of Malteser International, the Order of Malta's world wide humanitarian relief organisation that has been responding to emergencies since 1960. Thanks to the Order's connections, it has a global reach and local presence in most countries around the world, so it is able to provide a quick response in even the most remote locations.

The main project that we want to fundraise for tonight is the equipping and extension of an operating theatre at the Mission Hospital managed by the Malteser in Kakuma, North West Kenya by the border with South Sudan.

Supporting

Foreign Aid Service Order of Malta - Foreign Aid Service

The Foreign Aid Service (FAS) raises support for the works of the Order of Malta around the world.

With an annual dinner and emergency appeals throughout the year the money raised by FAS goes directly towards:

  • - disaster and emergency situations through Malteser International or the Associations.
  • - long-term sustainable support to the most needy: the persecuted, elderly and disabled people, refugees, the homeless and those with neglected diseases through the Global Fund for Forgotten People.

Staffed by volunteers, the FAS is low-cost and it benefits from the international reach and scale of the Order to be effective. We carefully select initiatives where the money raised can make a meaningful difference to the project and those who are helping.
