Tribute
Willie loved his dogs and walked them daily until a few weeks before his death. They meant the world to him. Unfortunately Corrie died a few months before Willie, but Maggie is still with us. Willie was lucky that neighbours, friends and family were able to help when he became too ill to walk his dog and that his son Andrew could take Maggie in after he died. This was a great comfort to Dad, knowing that his beloved pet was going to be well looked after. Not everyone is so lucky and many elderly people struggle at the end of their life in both taking care of their pet but also worrying what will happen if they need to go to hospital or what will happen when they die. The Cinnamon Trust is a specialist charity for people in their last years and their much loved pets. It is a network of volunteers who help keep people together with their pets, by walking dogs for housebound people, fostering pets during hospital visits and helping find care homes that accepts pets. They also plan with people to take on life time care of a bereaved pet when the owner dies. Although Willie didn't need help from the Cinnamon Trust, many elderly people do and it's a charity we would love to support in his name. It was one less thing for Willie to think about when he became terminally ill and we hope we can help others to have once less thing to think about.
Favourite memory
Willie adored his dogs Corrie and Maggie and was often seen on walks around Dundonald and on the beach.
