Tribute
On 28 July Glodwick Cricket Club lost a much loved friend and teammate when Richard Connolly sadly passed away after a long battle with Mesothelioma. At the request of his family donations in his memory may be made to Glodwick, the club he had served for over 30 years.
As a player Richard never claimed to have been touched by stardust, but whatever he lacked he sought to make up by total application, no-one practised more regularly. In games he was fiercely determined, he would never give his wicket away and woe betide anyone playing under his captaincy who did.
He was a very successful captain of the clubs 2nd team with a clear mission, not to win titles but rather to feed young players through to the first team. For many years he ran one of the clubs junior sides in which his sons Nathan and Matt would be playing. In recent years the club’s senior sides contained as many as 18 out of 22 players who’d come through the juniors. It was fortunate that his wife Lisa came from a family steeped in cricket. His dedication of time and effort would have been impossible to provide without her support.
Richard will be remembered with great affection and be sorely missed, but his legacy will continue through his sons.
