LifeLink24 - Sewing For Women & Freedom For Girls - Mission24 LIFE
For single mothers struggling to feed their children, there are hard choices to make, and sometimes they cannot see any good solution. The desperation leads many to become trapped in the sex trade.
Our nursery and child sponsorship programmes provide hope for the future of the children, but in addition they also free up the women’s time to learn something new. Lifelink24 is taking advantage of this to teach them a new skill – how to sew.
With so much clothing in Rwanda being made by hand, there is always a demand for somebody with the skill to make or repair items of clothing. By teaching this skill, we provide an opportunity to earn money and a way to escape the sex trade.
Many teenage girls and young women in Rwanda lack appropriate sanitary protection during their monthly cycle. As a result they are unable to leave home for their normal activities. This results in loss of schooling, loss of working hours, loss of income and loss of dignity.
Lifelink24 seek to end these losses by providing Freedom packs of washable sanitary protection. There is great opportunity to reach many girls in the community and within the schools when supplies are ready. Currently some of the girls on the sponsorship programme have received teaching and are taking part in the trial along with single mothers on the sewing project.
