February 2023 saw the launch of ACT 4 Africa activities in Kenya at a beautiful community school in an impoverished area just outside of the capital, Nairobi.
Serving children of single mothers, orphans living with relatives and street children, the school has been giving hope and empowerment to this vulnerable generation that would be otherwise out of school and put to labour, prostitution etc. The school gives the 135 or so students there access to education, nutrition, medical care and other support. The school’s much needed feeding programme ensures each child receives two nutritious meals daily.
The current ongoing drought in Kenya has created severe hardships for many with food shortages and exponentially rising prices. Some families are surviving on a single meal a day and children going hungry are sadly missing school.
Within this backdrop, ACT 4 Hunger are lending their support by providing a regular monthly donation of green mung beans, bananas and vegetables for the children’s school lunch.
There is a clear vision and road map to initially start off activities in Kenya with feeding programmes and alleviating hunger. Looking to the future the aim is to branch into other activities such as well building, medical care and empowerment programmes.
