As my 30th year on this planet approaches, I wanted to do something straight from the bucket list. Something outrageously challenging. And what’s more mentally and physically challenging than running 26.2 miles around London?
Rewind back to February the 11th 2020, I had just given birth to my first daughter Emilia in Bedford Hospital’s labour ward. Before I could get snuggled up with my newborn, I was rushed away to emergency surgery because I had hemorrhaged and lost a dangerous amount of blood. Without the speed and care of the nurses and doctors there that day, I wouldn’t be here typing this now! I went on to have my second daughter there in February of this year and once again, was greeted with incredible care and aftercare, with staff doing everything to ensure I avoided any similar experiences.
Working in a nursing home, I am in constant contact with the Bedford Hospital and its many different departments, mainly its A&E department which my service users visit from time to time. Despite the heavy strain on the NHS and hospitals at this time, the staff are always on hand to treat patients effectively and efficiently, working to find the best outcome for the patient and families.
So, on Sunday 21st of April 2024 I will be running the London Marathon on behalf of the Bedford Hospital Charity & Friends. Any kind donations will go towards funding life saving equipment for the hospital, as well as continuing to improve facilities for staff and patients alike.
Every little helps towards the bigger picture! And I hope to see lots of friendly faces at the finish line for a delicious, well earned Gin!! :-)
