About

Help us unlock opportunities for women overcoming multiple disadvantage

Gifted Women is a charity based in Plymouth, UK, supporting women into meaningful employment—women who are often told, or made to feel, that work isn’t an option for them.

Many of the women we work with have faced complex and overlapping challenges, including homelessness, problematic substance use and contact with the criminal justice system. These experiences are almost always rooted in trauma—and rarely recognised as part of a bigger story of strength, resilience, and survival.

We walk alongside women as they take their next step. We focus on possibility, not problems—helping women build confidence, develop new skills, and take up opportunities that work for them.

Women join our programme to access:

• A trauma-informed employability course that supports confidence and personal growth

• Weekly drop-ins focused on building community, connection, and practical skills around employability

• One-to-one support to move towards and into employment, which tailored to their wider life goals

• Work placements with local businesses

• Support with real-world barriers—like CVs, interviews, transport, laptops, clothing for work, or gaining ID

We work with around 50 women a year, each at a different point in their journey. Many go on to secure employment, begin further education, or rebuild a sense of purpose they previously felt they couldn’t have.

As one woman put it:

“I didn't feel able to find employment because of my physical and mental health. I didn't think there was a company or boss who could support me. I never really had people to say I'm good enough and I never believed in myself. Now I look forward to going to work without judgement and I know if I get something wrong they won't go mad. It's a safe space that comes with new challenges every time I'm there but I see it as growth and I've gained so much more confidence." (Testimonial from a Gifted Woman)

Your donation helps us cover the core costs that make this work possible—from running our programmes to providing everyday essentials that remove barriers to progress.

We believe women can use the power of employment to change their lives—not because work defines us, but because it can offer stability, dignity, and a future built on choice and independence.

Thank you for believing in women and for standing with us.

Celebrating Success: Our Pop-Up Shop Raised £11,333!

What Was the Pop-Up Shop?

In early 2025, Gifted Women ran a city-centre Pop-Up Shop, selling beautiful, high-quality women's clothing at affordable prices. Every piece carried a story—generously donated by local boutique owner Brigid Foley, following the closure of her shop and her retirement from retail.

Over ten days, we welcomed shoppers from across the city. All proceeds went directly to support our charitable work with women overcoming significant life challenges.

How It Links to Our Mission

Gifted Women empowers women facing complex barriers to move towards employment. We focus on building confidence, independence, and employability through real-life experience, skills development, and community connection.

The Pop-Up Shop wasn’t just about raising funds—it gave the women we support valuable work-like experience. They stepped into new roles, interacted with the public, and began to see what they’re capable of achieving.

The Impact in Numbers

  • £11,333 raised – Every penny reinvested into our charitable mission.
  • 8 women volunteered, gaining hands-on experience in retail, customer service, and teamwork.
  • 13 women received free outfits for interviews or the workplace.
  • Countless connections made – Stories were shared, confidence grew, and new supporters joined our mission.

In Her Words

“I loved helping at the Pop-Up Shop. I was nervous at first, but I quickly built confidence talking to customers and helping them pick clothes. It felt great to be useful and busy—it gave me a real taste of work! I loved meeting people and sharing what we do at Gifted Women. It showed me people aren’t as judgemental as I feared.”

Thank You

  • To Brigid Foley, whose donation made it all possible—thank you for your incredible generosity.
  • To Memory Matters CIC / Moments Café, for hosting us with such warmth—your support was invaluable.
  • To every customer, donor, and supporter—thank you for believing in second chances and being part of this journey.
