The vision of ACT Foundation is adding value to the world through selfless service and we try to deliver the aid directly into the hands of the needy, interacting with the people heart-to-heart. As part of this mission we have a team specifically dedicated to victims of natural disasters and conflict situations.
After the earthquakes in Türkiye and Morocco, ACT travelled to the emergency zones to offer relief aid. In Türkiye, the aid needed was still very much provision of the essential basics of shelter, hygiene products, food and clothing. Every delivery created a beautiful feeling of giving, whether it was giving diapers to a baby, a blanket to an elderly man, hygienic pads to some young women or thermal layers to start a new wardrobe. It was especially the offering of wood burners that gave the biggest joy, warming over a thousand people’s hands and feet!
By living amongst the earthquake victims in Morocco, we soon realised there are numerous other ways to bring some more comfort. In many places the school toilets had become the main public facilities, so ACT upgraded some of these buildings. We supplied what was needed, from tents, mattresses, chairs and tables, to tools and electrical heaters.
We also shared heartbreaking moments, holding sobbing women in our arms or standing next to a man, silently staring into a collapsed house where 'mum' still lies under the rubble. In the rawness of major loss and trauma, we show victims that they are not alone in their ordeal.
ACT also consistently keeps offering support for the continuing conflict in Ukraine. We made around ten trips into Ukraine distributing over 100 tonnes of food, supplying life basic essentials and other critical items such as wheelchairs and adult diapers. We helped to improve shelter facilities by building showers, laundry facilities and improving community kitchens and school classes. We delivered to various hospitals, orphanages and psychiatry institutions.
