Care4Calais Scotland is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting refugees and people seeking asylum throughout Scotland, with a particular focus currently on Edinburgh and the Lothians. We believe in showing compassion, dignity, and solidarity by offering practical support and friendship to people who have fled war, persecution, and hardship.
What We Do
Community Events: Our team organises regular social events and activities to help build community, boost wellbeing, and reduce isolation.
Distribute Essential Items: We try to provide essential items to people in need, depending on our resources and donations, or signpost to relevant services.
Advocacy and Awareness: In the UK, we campaign for refugees’ rights and work to raise public awareness about the realities faced by those seeking safety.
We are currently fundraising to continue our wellbeing activities which include:
- monthly cinema club for 18 people (cost £250 per month);
- twice a month Social Clubs (cost £20-40 per meeting);
-once a month minibus outing for 14 people to a place of interest (cost £140 per outing for a local outing with no ticket costs and low mileage; £500 for an outing with ticket costs or food);
- weekly trips to places of interest or events or activities – cost varies on type of travel but 18 people with bus tickets is £88 plus drinks at £40-60.
We also try to support people with clothing and other essential items to supplement their £10 a week allowance.
