We are a group of dynamic and determined volunteers helping support asylum seekers and refugees housed in temporary accommodation in North London. We now really need your help.
As you can imagine asylum seekers have very few possessions. Many we speak to are suffering from trauma and have poor mental health. They literally miss everything - from having a comfortable home, to support from close family and friends.
Individual asylum seekers are eligible for £8 per week (if placed in a hotel) and £30 per week (if in self catering accommodation). This amount of money really doesn't stretch very far. Things many of us take for granted - like bus rides, underwear and basic toiletries - are often out of reach on this budget.
It does not take much to make their lives a little more comfortable and dignified.
