These tiles were initially created by the pupils of Wadebridge School and members of the community between the ages of 4 years and 82 years.
This was done with the help of Cathy Dufort under the guidance of and with the expertise of local artist Danka Napiorkowska https://www.danka-napiorkowska.co.uk/
The then lady Mayor Betty Palmer was instrumental in setting it all up.
Our tile auction is underway!
We hope to sell many of these wonderful tiles over the next 8 days to top up the funds for our Swimming Against the Tide Programme. This major investment and improvement programme has seen almost £2million invested in our community run sports and leisure centre since Spring 2023 with the aim of making the centre financially and environmentally sustainable for years to come.
There has been a huge emphasis on improvements to make the space truly accessible for people of all ages and abilities to be able to enjoy the well-being benefits associated with sports and activities. Creating a hub for people across generations to come together in a health focused environment is also a core aim of this programme.
The tiles, having spent 30years decorating the pool hall at the centre, will soon be replaced by the next generation of community art. We have received beautiful creations from our local schools that will be reproduced as 1.2m square panels to further brighten our newly refurbished swimming facility.
A mixed media art creation based on these tiles will ensure these beautiful sea creatures are not forgotten.

Our Pool Tile Auction is almost set to go live after we have seen 32 tiles return to their original artist/their family.
Money raised will go towards our Swimming Against the Tide programme of improvements at the centre.
The image below is from our original fundraising initiative in Spring 2023 where we raised almost £10,000 including gift aid on our beautiful fish mural.
