About

Founded by poet Lemn Sissay MBE, The Christmas Dinner brings communities together to provide a Christmas Day for care leavers, aged between 18 and 25. A care leaver is a person over the age of 16 who has been looked after away from home by a local authority. Having left familiar surroundings, this may well be their first Christmas away from care - and alone. We need your help to give them a joyful day with gifts, with a wonderful Christmas Dinner...a day they will never forget. The Huddersfield Christmas Dinner runs purely on donations. For our guests to receive presents and food hampers, we need your help! We support Care Leavers aged 18-25 from across Kirklees. Since 2014, volunteers have united to bring young people together on Christmas Day. Growing up in Care, these young people will all have faced numerous challenges in their lives. Christmas can be a difficult day for many as it is a reminder of everything they have NEVER had. We want our guests to know that we care for them. This year has been difficult and the Huddersfield Christmas Dinner will be delivered to individual homes to help them celebrate despite the difficulties posed by social distancing and other restrictions. With your help we can overcome any obstacles! Please donate! Thank you, TCD Huddersfield Team.
