Two of our trustees have written and illustrated books that we sell, with all proceeds going to support the work of Friends of Street Children Bangladesh.

Our first book is " The Street is Not a Home". It is bi-lingual ( English and Bengali). It is for young people and is based on stories about four young people who came to Dhaka, survived on the streets and found a permanent home with LEEDO, the organisation we support in Dhaka.

The book is for children who want to find out more about real places and real people whose experiences are very different from their own. It was created with children who use projects run by Street Children LEEDO in Dhaka  The cost of the book is £20 including postage and packing.

The second book is The Children Behind the Brands (English only). It provides insight into the lives of children surviving on the streets of Dhaka by selling water and collecting discarded plastic bottles. It highlights how this invisible child labour plays a pivotal role in the multi-billion-pound global recycled-plastics economy and questions why neither major brands, nor consumers, nor recycling advocates, nor international labour organisations acknowledge it. The cost is £10 plus £4 post and packing.

Friends of Street Children Bangladesh

Friends of Street Children Bangladesh is a small charity run entirely by volunteers. We support work with street children. Our main partner is LEEDO, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We raise funds to support their work, for example we organise fundraising meals and encourage online donations. LEEDO undertake outreach and education on the streets and run a transitional shelter to assess future options for the children including rehabilitation with their families. LEEDO have a Peace Home for children who have no family to care for them.

The Children Behind the Brands provides insight into the lives of children surviving on the streets of Dhaka by selling water and collecting discarded plastic bottles.

The Street is Not a Home

Two of our trustees have written and illustrated a book that has been published by Bok Bok books. It is for children aged nine plus and contains four fictional stories about children who survived on the streets of Dhaka. The stories are based on 18 real case studies.

The book is for children who want to find out more about real places and real people whose experiences are very different from their own. It was created with children who use projects run by Street Children LEEDO in Dhaka

The author and illustrator are not taking royalties from the sale of the book and the publisher is not making a profit. All proceeds from selling the book, after production costs, will be donated to Friends of Street Children Bangladesh to support work with children in Dhaka.
