In July 2025 we lost one of the kindest souls to depression. Adam was the kind of person you couldn’t help but love and admire; driven, funny, caring and full of energy and lofty ideas.
One of his greatest accomplishments was swimming the English Channel in 2019, something that only 2050 people have achieved to date since the first successful attempt in 1875! Throughout his 2 years of preparation and training for his swim he helped highlight Mental Health Awareness through regular progress posts on a specific Instagram account for the attempt, and raised over £3,600 for the Mental Health charity, We Are With You. On Monday 26th August he set out at 6am, reaching French soil 18 hours and 3 minutes later. An absolute legend.
Fast forward to Tuesday 26th August 2025 and a beautiful farewell service was held on his 'channelversary'. To mark the occasion one year later, I plan to walk the approximate distance Adam covered during those 18 hours, travelling on foot from Chelmsford to Mersea Island in Essex, a distance of around 25 miles, taking approximately 9 hours.
I hadn’t initially planned to raise funds through the walk, but I felt that if people wanted to donate to a worthy cause, then Butterfly Effect Wellness would be a truly deserving choice. Based here in Essex, they strive to create a warm and welcoming environment that supports everyone on their personal journey towards better mental health.
