We believe that sharing a meal is a wonderful way to bring people together, build connections and create a stronger community.
The Turtle Dove Cambridge Supper Club began with a request from the young women that we support. As many approach (or have reached) the point of living independently for the first time, they wanted cooking workshops that focused on simple, nutritious meals that they could realistically make at home. With the cost of living rising, cooking affordable meals can feel quite daunting. Throw in complicated recipes with endless lists of ingredients, and overwhelming choice of recipes available online, and many people end up cooking the same meal over and over again.
This idea led to the launch of the Turtle Dove Takeaway in March 2026, where we began preparing a vegetarian meal each month that was available to both the young women and the community to purchase. While these were incredibly successful in terms of developing cooking skills and meal inspiration, we saw an opportunity for improvement in how we shared the food, especially considering small talk and meaningful connections has been the more recent focus in our events and workshops. And so we decided to explore expanding the Takeaway to instead be a sit-down meal where the community could come together, meet Turtle Dove, and share a delicious meal.
As we are in the process of moving our kitchen to Northstowe, we thought this would be the perfect community to launch our Supper Club. After a soft-launch event in November 2026, we are hoping to launch this as a monthly event in 2027.
We want the Supper Club to remain affordable and welcoming to everyone. We work hard to keep the cost per portion low, but there is a lot more costs that go into each event. We need to cover the kitchen and room hire, staffing, and the cost of transport. Then there's also all the behind-the-scenes work, with planning, shopping, preparation, food safety checks and paperwork for each event. We also want
