Story

The Purple Butterly Fund has been established to address the urgent need to provide tiny grants (mostly under £10) to Refugees, Asylum Seekers and those with no recourse to public funds. These grants enable them to pay for basic amenities including public transport, food and baby items.

Stockport Race Equality Partnership runs a weekly Tuesday drop-in where people from our ethnically diverse communities can receive help with accessing basic public services including, housing, healthcare, employment advice and education. However we know that our drop-in can only take people so far. Through the relationships we have built with the people we support who are living in destitution, we know that people are in desperate need of cash grants. We hear how people have missed vital immigration appointments because they cannot afford to pay for public transport and cannot endure the several hour long walk as an alternative. We hear how mothers are struggling to pay for essential baby items and how teenagers are unable to pay the bus fare to school.

The money raised through the Purple Butterly Fund will directly benefit Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Stockport. Your donation, no matter how big or small will make all the difference to someone's chances in life.

Stockport Race Equality Partnership

S-REP is a small, community-led, not-for-profit organisation focused on nurturing and supporting ethnic diverse communities to integrate and grow. We do this by advocating fairness, tackling marginalisation and discrimination and building equity within systems. Crucially we are here for the wellbeing of ethnically diverse communities and making sure people have the services they need so that they can lead a better life for themselves. We recognise the importance of partnership work and strive to build synergy among ethnic diverse communities and individuals focused on integration, reducing poverty and promoting economic empowerment in the Stockport community. Our Mantra: We put people at the heart of everything we do to ensure that ethnically diverse communities in Stockport: • Have clear pathways to services that will improve their lives. • Know their rights (and responsibilities) and are aware of emerging legislation. • Have positive pathways to wellbeing and economic growth. • Contribute to research, and strategic representation at roundtables, meetings and working groups to influence positive change and share the ethnic diverse community experience of issues affecting them. • Have access to peer support, networking, training, and personal development opportunities. • Can contribute as part of a thriving, inclusive borough, which understands and celebrates diversity, and enables all its people to live their fullest lives.
