Story

Sam Stables, a sheep farmer from Herefordshire and the founder of We Are Farming Minds, has partnered with the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) and their Mind Your Head campaign to walk 142 miles from Ross‑on‑Wye to London.

His goal is simple but powerful: shine a national spotlight on the immense pressures farmers face every single day and to raise vital funds for NFYFC.  Sam wants to help give the next generation of farmers the voice, confidence, and support they deserve, so please dig deep to donate.

From unpredictable weather and financial strain to isolation and long hours, British farmers are carrying more weight than ever before.

The Farm Safety Foundation research revealed that 95% of farmers under 40 believe that mental health is the biggest hidden problem facing farmers today.

Sam’s walk is a symbol of that struggle — but it’s also a symbol of hope. He wants every farmer to know that support exists, that they are not alone, and that things can get better. By taking on this challenge during Mind Your Head Week, Sam is calling for greater understanding, more open conversations, and stronger support for those who feed the nation.

Please support Sam's mission by donating to help rural young people through programmes of work developed by Young Farmers' Clubs.

Supporting

The National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs

The National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs (NFYFC) is the largest rural youth organisation in the UK dedicated to young people who love agriculture and rural life. We support more than 23,000 young people involved in 592 Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFCs) across England and Wales.

YFCs provide anyone aged 10 to 28 with the opportunity to develop skills, campaign on issues that matter to them, work with their local rural communities, travel abroad to rural locations, take part in a varied competitions programme and enjoy a dynamic social life.

NFYFC is an umbrella body, providing a framework for YFCs to follow. As well as events, training and competitions, we offer support and resources to guide our 46 county federations and their YFCs.

NFYFC is led by young people, for young people and our programme of work is shaped by a national council of YFC members.
