Story

Introduction 👋

Hi, I'm Katie, a transport and cycling enthusiast from Lincoln! To raise money for TransActual, I will be riding from Lincoln to Norwich on the 12th June. This ride will be almost double my personal record (of 64mi), and therefore will require ample training for me to accomplish. However, with the support of others, anything is possible! Throughout early June, I will be updating people on all my socials on how I am progressing with my training, and will make bi-hourly posts on the big two days. Why TransActual? 💖

The answer is fairly simple. TransActual advocates for transgender people such and myself and many of my friends. Currently, transgender people are being demonised by the media, and our rights are being stripped away by the government. This has led to a wave of disinformation and hate surrounding our community. This needs to change. TransActual provides information surrounding the legalities of transitioning and helps doctors understand the medical side of the process. Meanwhile, they are fighting for our rights at every level of government. In brief, TransActual aids in and fights for the existence of transgender people. If you have the means to donate, please do. However, if you are unable to, sharing my campaign provides just as much help 😄

TransActual UK was founded by a group of British trans people in 2017 as a response to increasing press hostility, transphobia and misinformation. We are run by the trans community, with the trans community, for the trans community. In June 2020 we expanded our scope and remit so that may: 1. Share reliable information about trans people's lives and about trans rights in the UK, as well as dispelling common myths 2. Amplify the voices of trans people so that the wider world may hear the experiences of a wide range of trans men, trans women and non-binary people 3. Educate people about trans people's lives and the issues we face 4. Advocate for trans people 5. Empower trans people to make bring about change in their lives and in the community We are working to improve: ? 1. Trans people's experiences of healthcare.? 2. Legal recognition & protections for trans people. 3. Improved media representation of trans people and an end to press transphobia.
