Welcome! On Saturday 9 March 2027 I'll be one of 48 poets taking part in a Poem-A-Thon (a non-stop relay of poets) to raise money for 3 charities:

  • Rukhsana Khan Foundation food bank
  • Age UK Waltham Forest 
  • Forest Churches Emergency Night Shelter

Thank you in advance for your donation. In 2023 we raised over £10,000 and we're looking to do at least as well this time. All donations will be forwarded directly to the 3 charities at least once a month so there'll be a regular amount of cash going their way up to and beyond 9 March.

Age UK Waltham Forest

Growing older shouldn't mean becoming isolated. At Age UK Waltham Forest, we support older people to stay connected, independent and valued within their community. Last year alone, we supported 5,596 older people across the borough, with the help of 390 dedicated volunteers who gave over 32,000 hours of their time. For many people we support, a friendly face, a telephone call, help with claiming benefits, or an opportunity to meet others can make a life-changing difference. In 2024/25, we helped older residents secure more than £2.3 million in previously unclaimed benefits, provided 7,384 befriending visits, and welcomed thousands of attendances at social, wellbeing and exercise activities. Every donation helps us combat loneliness, improve wellbeing and ensure older people in Waltham Forest can age with dignity, confidence and purpose. Together, we can make sure no older person feels forgotten or alone. ❤️

Rukhsana Khan Foundation

In late 2012, Jahangir Khan’s mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. At this same time, Jahangir was struck by reports that more people were struggling to put food on the table for their families.

His mother had always preached that if good comes to you, you should reach out and share your success with others. In her memory, he launched the Rukhsana Khan Foundation.

The mission of the charity is to help local families access food. We launched Walthamstow’s first Food Bank in 2013.

Future plans for the charity include summer lunch clubs for local children and breakfast clubs for the elderly and vulnerable.
