PLEASE HELP FIDDLE

HELP FIDDLE RECOVER AFTER A SERIOUS ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Fiddle, a beautiful 7 year old bundle of fur, was involved in a serious road traffic accident on Tuesday evening at Fairlop Waters in Ilford.

She suffered a fractured pelvis and a severe open wound to her abdomen, believed to have been caused by the impact. Our Operations Manager happened to be walking her own dog nearby when the accident occurred and immediately called me for help. Her assistance in rushing the dog and owner to the vet hospital potentially saved Fiddle!

Fiddle was rushed to the nearest 24-hour veterinary hospital. However, because substantial payments were required before each stage of treatment, and costs were rising rapidly for just pain relief and keep comfortable we transferred her to a trusted veterinary surgeon with whom we have worked for many years.

On arrival, Fiddle was extremely swollen and required immediate surgery. Thankfully, she is now stable and comfortable, but she still has a long road to recovery.

Her owners had responsibly insured her, but their policy provides only £1,000 of cover. They are not in a financial position to meet the significant additional costs and are understandably devastated by what has happened.

Dogs on the Streets has stepped in to ensure Fiddle receives the care she urgently needs. We have initially set a fundraising target of £3,000 ( which may increase) to help cover:

• The emergency hospital costs to pay

• Fiddle’s recent operation and hospital care

• Follow-up veterinary appointments

• Assessment of abdomen wound

• Medication

Fiddle has an appointment with Celia Hammond on the 14th regarding her pelvis. We are still waiting to receive the full invoice for her surgery, so we will provide updates as her treatment progresses and the costs become clearer.

Fiddle is still currently stable after emergency surgery to close her abdomen up.

She has started very slowly to drink and eat little bits but currently what is paramount is to keep her comfortable and pain free. I will be attending the vets at 12pm tomorrow to see her and receive more of an update. The concern is post trauma skin trauma

Dog care has always been of huge importance to DOTS LONDON founder Michelle through her other homeless outreach projects and she has become known as someone who likes to support the street dogs that so many of our homeless friends have as pets. She originally started providing essentials for the street dogs over five years ago, raising awareness and collecting donations via her original Twitter account @donatesox/@otslondon.

DOTS LONDON is the first independent voluntary ran street project that PROTECTS, CARES & SUPPORTS all street dogs covering the Borough of Westminster, Camden, Shoreditch, East and parts of North London, Michelle was the first to provide dog essentials to homeless people living on the streets of London. This was very much needed and appreciated from the homeless community with dogs. As a result awareness grew and more grass-roots initiatives recognised the need for support with, and donations for street dogs.
