The Pink Place currently supports 267 women living with cancer in our community, from initial diagnosis, throughout treatment and beyond. Based in Basingstoke and serving the wider North Hampshire area, this small yet impactful charity provides an extensive range of free wellbeing and support services, including counselling, mindfulness classes, complementary therapies (massage, reflexology, aromatherapy), yoga therapy, peer group support and friendship.
With the sobering reality that 1 in 2 will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, The Pink Place is dedicated to tackling the profound challenges of mental health, anxiety, fear and isolation that are often impacted by a cancer diagnosis. It’s well documented that the holistic and wellbeing elements of a cancer patient's treatment can form an integral part of their recovery, treating the whole person and not just the disease itself.
In the past year, the charity has seen a 27% increase in demand for its services, people like Zoe who wanted to share her comments:
Zoe, aged 29, mum of a 5yr and 7yr old. “Terminal cancer rang in my ears! Dazed, shocked and disbelief but The Pink Place has helped me with so many emotions; anger, sadness, grief, and the realisation that I won't see my little girls grow up. With their support and help, I'm finding the strength and courage to face the reality. I’m making memories and putting things in place for when I'm no longer here".
