Story

In December I turned 72. I aim to run 72 miles, mostly alone, in my home town, Haywards Heath, from 18 February to 18 March. Those were my parents’ birthdays; both died aged 72.

UPDATE, 18 MARCH: I've now completed the 72 miles in 26 days, with ongoing treatment from an osteopath after the first week of the challenge because my back has made running a little painful in this colder weather - and despite testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday 13 March, with 10.2 miles to go. I had to complete those last miles walking as fast as I could, and now I am simply recovering from that final, unexpected hurdle!

The Anglo-Ghanaian children’s charity my run supports is Lovey Foundation (UK), charity no.1191631. I'm a trustee because my father passed his grammar school entrance exams but couldn’t take up his place - his parents couldn’t afford the uniform.

Thanks to inflation (50% in Ghana), it costs at least £72 to equip a subsistence farmer’s child for school in Bawku, NE Ghana. That's for the uniform, sandals, backpack, exercise books and personal stationery. With your help I aim to raise £72 per mile so 72 more girls' and boys' lives can change this September. We've supported almost 400 so far since 2013, the majority of them girls.

Kindly sponsor me as generously as you can, with GIFT AID if you pay UK Income / Capital Gains Tax, so we can reclaim 25p for each £1 you give.
