It is a 75m climb from the main road in Matterdale End up to a wonderful spot on the edge of the track to the west where many like to stop. Here one is able to watch a variety of birds as well as taking in the ever-changing views of Blencathra, Great Mell Fell, Little Mell Fell and Gowbarrow.
At the moment there is a metal seat on temporary loan at this point. We are raising funds to replace it with a permanent bench for the many passers by, including off road cyclists on the Coast-to-Coast, horse riders and a wide variety of runners and walkers, many of whom stop to admire the view or recover their breath.
On 21st August 2022 there will be a 4 mile community walk with tea and cake to raise money for the bench starting at 2pm from Matterdale Church or 2:15 from Ulcat Row road end see https://www.matterdale.org/whatson for more details.
