I am running the London Marathon in 2026 to raise money for the excellent charity BackCare - the UK's national back pain association. Their mission, which I am proud to support, is to turn the tide on back pain through research, education and outreach activities.
Your donations - big, small and everything and anything in between - mean the world to me. By helping me raise valuable funds for BackCare, you are making a real difference to people's lives.
Back pain is one of the most common conditions and the vast majority of us are likely to be affected by back pain at some point in our lives. Often, it is only when we experience back pain ourselves that we realise just how painful and debilitating it can be.
As with so much, the words of Joni Mitchell ring true: "you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone". I definitely took my back for granted until I personally suffered from back pain. From the aches and stiffness caused by a desk-based job and poor posture, to the sheer agony of lower-back muscle spasms, to managing the ongoing pain of a broken coccyx for over 3 years. All brought - and bring - challenges. Seeing close family and friends cope with back pain, temporary and chronic, also made me realise how prevalent it is and how easy it is for back pain to cause a knock-on effect on fitness, mental and physical health.
