After saying never again, here I am, running the Great North Run.
As North East Mayor I’m committed to fighting poverty and creating opportunity in our great North East. My chosen charities are doing exactly those things every single day.
Love, Amelia is a children’s charity offering support to families experiencing poverty and hardship across the North East.
They accept donations of pre-loved baby items in great condition and gift them to families who need them most. Since launching in 2019, they have supported over 26,000 children in our community. The items are provided with great care and love, ensuring that no child, from birth to 16 years old, goes without essential items.
Everything the wonderful team do at Love, Amelia is designed to support families and ensure children have the essential items needed to be safe, happy and to thrive.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation established in 2008 by Sir Bobby Robson during his fifth battle with cancer, works to advance cancer research and treatment – especially through early-phase clinical drug trials at our very own Newcastle Freeman Hospital. It’s initial target to raise £500,000 was smashed in a matter of weeks and since then, the Foundation have raised over £20million to date and has funded pioneering projects.
The Robson family remain ambitious in delivering Sir Bobby’s vision for world class cancer care and treatment for the people of the North East.
Now I’m not a runner. The Great North Run is a huge challenge for me- but I couldn’t think of a better way to raise money for these fantastic North East organisations.
