Why I’m taking part in the Big Shropshire Sleep Out

I’ve supported the work of the Shrewsbury Ark for some time and have seen first-hand just how important it is to people facing homelessness in our community.

The Ark provides practical help such as food, showers, clean clothes and somewhere safe to be, but its work goes much further than that. The team supports people with housing, health, benefits and the many other challenges that can come with homelessness.

I’ve also seen how strongly the people of Shrewsbury have got behind the Ark, particularly through the Save the Ark campaign, and it is clear just how valued this service is locally.

So on Saturday 10th October, I’ll be taking part in the Big Shropshire Sleep Out, spending the night outside.

One night outside can never recreate the reality of homelessness. I’ll know I’m safe and that I have a home to return to the next morning. But I hope taking part will help raise awareness of what people sleeping rough face and, importantly, raise funds to help the Ark continue its work throughout the year.

If you are able to sponsor me, however much you can give, I would be very grateful. Every donation will help the Ark continue to be there for people in Shrewsbury when they need it most.
