Story

Crieff & Strathearn Museum have been given first option on an important collection of photographs by John McGregor, a Strathearn photographer based in Muthill at the beginning of the 20th century. There are 426 glass half plates in the collection which feature local people and scenes in images of a very high standard and we think it is vitally important we do all we can to preserve the collection, intact, in the area where they originated.

We feel fortunate to have been given this opportunity on behalf of the Strathearn community but if we are to succeed we need to act fast. Please consider donating to this dedicated appeal to raise the necessary funds to purchase, repair and conserve these precious images which, if we are successful, will be made available for all to see on our web site, pending an exhibition and permanent display in the future. The immediate need was to raise £750 to secure the purchase. Thanks to one very generous donor we have met that target and so all further funds raised for this appeal will go towards the repair and conservation of the plates and their ongoing curation.

Supporting

CRIEFF & STRATHEARN MUSEUM

After public consultation in the Crieff area it was agreed that there is strong support for a museum, at the heart of Strathearn, to help tell our important story. The Crieff & Strathearn Museum team of volunteers started to take action near the end of 2016 and formed a properly constituted charitable body later in the spring of 2017.

The C&SM team are committed to developing a new museum and heritage centre in Crieff, to serve the people of Strathearn and for people coming to the area to learn about Strathearn's history and its part in shaping the nation.
