I’m tackling the Isle of Man marathon in August to raise funds for the Merseyside Asbestos Victim Support Group (MAVS).
In February this year our lives were turned upside down when Stewart was diagnosed with mesothelioma, an aggressive and incurable cancer caused by asbestos exposure.
The team at MAVS have provided endless support for Stewy, helping us navigate trying to get access to resources and help that’s seems to be extra challenging to find in the Isle of Man.
As well as that help, they’re always at the end of the phone for a much needed chat and pick me up.
Stewy is bravely facing his treatment head on and not letting his diagnosis get in the way of being a strong and loving husband, dad, grandad and great grandad for all of the family.
If Stewy isn’t with the family you’ll find him on the bowling green winning matches and cheering his team mates on.
But maintaining some normality wouldn’t be possible without the outstanding support from MAVS.
So a few weeks ago I signed up for the marathon and started training, and I can’t think of a better cause to be running for.
Nearly 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in the UK every year, we didn’t ever think someone in our family would be part of that statistic.
I’m asking for support to raise much needed funds for this wonderful charity, without whom our family would be lost.

Alex
