We are raising money to fund English conversation classes for asylum seekers in East London!
We restarted these classes last year with enormous success however we are relying on the support of our community, family and friends to keep them going.
The English sessions are held at St. John's Church in Hoxton which provides a great learning environment for up to 20 asylum seekers from around East London to attend weekly.
The church request a small contribution to their running costs at £100 per month, and we would love to raise enough money to book these sessions in all year!
We make sure the lessons are suitable for all levels. This means they can range from teaching students the alphabet and the real language basics, to practicing how to make a medical appointment or have a job interview.
English practice is absolutely vital for the successful integration of asylum seekers, and whilst the home office provides official language lessons, the wait for these lessons can be up to several months. During this time most asylum seekers are also denied the opportunity to work, and so these informal language lessons also provide a safe space to make new connections and chat in English with some friendly faces.
Thank you so much in advance for any contributions made.
