Football for All – Bringing Communities Together for Mental Health
Football is about more than just the game. It’s about friendship, belonging, inclusion and bringing people together.
This special fundraising event will see Newtown Community Football Team, run by Stephen Lewis, take on The Caersws Wellbeing Warriors, a team from the Caersws Wellbeing and Support Group, run by Karl Wigley on the 27th November at Latham Park, 7.30 Kick off.
Both teams represent something much bigger than football. Newtown Community Football Team provides opportunities for neurodiverse players to enjoy the beautiful game in an inclusive, welcoming and supportive environment. The Caersws Wellbeing Warriors bring together people connected through wellbeing and mental health support, showing the positive impact that teamwork, friendship and community can have on our mental health.
The event is built around one simple but powerful message: Football is for everyone. Regardless of background, ability or personal circumstances, everyone deserves the opportunity to be involved, feel valued and experience the benefits of being part of a team.
Alongside celebrating inclusion and community spirit, the event aims to raise vital funds for Ponthafren, a mental health charity based in Powys, which provides invaluable support to people experiencing mental health challenges.
Adding another huge challenge to the occasion, Stephen Lewis will also be taking on an incredible personal challenge of running over 100 miles in support of Movember, helping to raise awareness of men's mental health and the importance of opening up conversations, supporting one another and breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health and allowing people from all backgrounds to thrive.
